RECENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Our district staff understands that our decision to open or close schools in bad weather has a substantial effect on families. We also understand that our students are better served—academically and socially—by being in school. But as always, our top priority is the safety of our students.

After consulting with local weather officials we have determined that the chance for severe weather tomorrow is high in our area. Strong storms are expected as early as 10:00 AM and will continue with the threat until 7:00 PM.

We are fortunate to have a storm cellar at our school as well as the locker rooms under the bleachers in the HS gym. We realize that many of our students rely on that shelter and if left home alone would not have a safe place to go to in the event of severe weather.

Weighing all of those factors we have decided to continue with school tomorrow. We understand the concern parents might have with the threat of severe weather coming in. If you have that concern you have the choice of keeping your children home with you tomorrow. By staying open we give those students without a shelter at home a safe place to be during the school day. We do ask that parents make arrangements to provide a safe way for their child to make it home after school. Buses will run if weather permits. If your child rides a bus you might make alternative arrangements however. The forecast calls for substantial rain and buses might not be able to make it down many of the county roads.

As stated earlier, our top priority is the safety of our students. Please make what you feel is the best decision for your child tomorrow and be safe!
