Walters Public Educational Foundation

The Walters Public Educational Foundation is a non-profit 501©3 organization that provides educational scholarships for WHS graduates as well as annual classroom grants to Walters educators. Since 1984, over $824,000 in scholarships and grants have been awarded.

WPEF began with a $25,000 donation from Paul Mershon, Jr. for a computer lab for the elementary school in 1984. Mr. Mershon stated he would be willing to donate an additional $25,000 if funds could be matched with donations from the community. Our Walters community met the challenge and WPEF was established from those original gifts. Over the past 40 years, many alumni and various school supporters have contributed through estate and memorial gifts.

Board members include Michael Flanagan, Sharon Harrison, Philip Hart, Paul Metcalfe, Jennifer Meason, and Christy Ray. School representatives are Jimmie Dedmon, Charla Dedmon, Caitlin Farris and Denise Tulloh.
